Good Times
The holiday weekend was a good one. Had Thanksgiving with my mom’s friend’s family, who practically are family. The turkey was especially tasty; Thanksgiving turkeys sometimes come out dry and tasteless, but this was everything a turkey should be; perfect golden brown, lively taste, tender meat. I called the family in Michigan, they all sounded miserable and despondent. It’s apparently been a rough year. Part of me feels guilty for not being there for it, but most of me is just glad I wasn’t there for it. My dad’s side of the family isn’t really the sort that’s ever going to fix its problems. After dinner mom and I came back and had a mini-House marathon on the laptop, which was much enjoyed by all. Fun fact: you can watch the last five episodes of the season on Fox’s site in a very tidy and skipless HD stream. Or for Becky, STREAMING AUDIO. *ahem*
Friday I helped my mom with some stuff around the house before heading to a friend’s party. Her husband had a birthday, and they figured that the day after Thanksgiving would be a good time to celebrate. It was a good party, although most of the folks there got high toward the end, which got a touch annoying. I did like that they phrased it as ‘A Meeting of the Joint Chiefs,’ one of the more creative euphemisms I’ve heard.
Saturday mom and I saw Love Sweet Love, as I elaborated on in the previous entry. I didn’t actually talk about the outing itself, which was a lot of fun. The show was at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Phoenix, which is an area that will probably be Kick-Ass Awesome in like five years. Right now a lot of the downtown is torn up as a light rail is installed (yay!) and Mexicans and their homes are kicked out (not so much yay), but I like that the central area of Phoenix is a god-damn city, with hotels, theatres, nice restaurants, skyscrapers, and two stadiums all within blocks of each other. We ate at a really good bistro after the show, for startlingly little money.
Today I’ve mostly puttered around, watched some football, did some work, played some games. Nonetheless, I had a laundry list of chores that’s by and large complete now that it’s the end of the day.
Tomorrow will be fairly busy, I’ve got things to send and people to talk to, and thesis work to get on top of.
